The deepest known point in the ocean is the Challenger Deep, located in the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean. It lies about 11,000 meters (36,000 feet) below sea level so deep that if Mount Everest were placed inside, its peak would still be underwater. The pressure at this depth is over 1,000 times greater than at sea level, making it one of the most extreme environments on Earth.
Despite the darkness, cold, and crushing pressure, scientists have discovered some forms of life at these incredible depths, such as strange-looking fish, shrimp-like creatures, and microorganisms. Only a few human missions have reached the Challenger Deep, including dives by manned submersibles. Exploring these hidden parts of the ocean helps us understand more about Earth’s geology, biology, and the limits of life. Shutdown123
